History and character
Château Mouton Rothschild was promoted to Premier Cru Classé in 1973, the only change ever made to the 1855 classification. It is also famous for its artist labels, created each year by a different artist.
Pauillac, on the left bank of the Gironde, is home to three of the five Premier Cru wines in the 1855 classification (Lafite Rothschild, Latour and Mouton Rothschild) and is the preferred terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon.
Premier Cru Classé in the famous 1855 classification, commissioned by Napoleon III for the Paris Universal Exhibition.
