Collection: The Caggio

Il Caggio is a small medieval village in a unique paradise, surrounded by rolling hills adorned with rows of Sangiovese. From the vineyards that surround it, a new wine is born, in complete harmony with its territory, showing an extraordinary personality.

A company at the forefront of Italian viticulture, Il Caggio bases its principles on a modern and natural approach. The potential of the terroir is enhanced thanks to an extremely precise vinification, carried out separately by parcel, by type of clone and rootstock.

Il Caggio was purchased by the Mazzei family in 2006. Right from the start the potential of the 150 hectares was very evident, but the real object of their desire was the 6.5 hectares of the so-called "enclave". These marvelous vines are the very essence of Caggio and reflect the purity and tranquility of the nature that surrounds the village.

Il Caggio is located between 320 and 350 meters above sea level and has the ideal characteristics to produce a spectacular Sangiovese. The soil is mainly clayey schist mixed with calcareous marl with alberese rock skeleton, a mix that lends itself perfectly to Sangiovese.

The vineyards have a 150° south-east to south-west exposure around the hillock, with a clearly Mediterranean microclimate. This particular exposure and climate create the optimal conditions for growing exceptional wines, while good ventilation and low humidity facilitate organic management.

Since 2006, each vintage produced at Caggio has revealed its own distinct character, highlighted by a perfect balance and a formidable temperament.
