Pierre Meurgey - Beaune 1er Cru
"Les Vignes Franches"
2018
100% Pinot Noir
75cl
Les Vignes Franches is located at the southern end of Beaune's Premier Cru sites, near the municipality's border with Pommard. The grapes for this wine are 70% destemmed and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats. The wine matures in 228 liter French oak barrels.Exposure: East
Soil: Clayey and limestone
Alcohol: 13.4%
2019 vintage review: 94 points
“Sourced from a plot near the southern tip of Beaune and its border with Pommard, this rich, deeply cherry-red Pinot Noir is accented by hints of spice and earth. Structured and richly concentrated, it is also lively fresh, with a finish marked by hits of stone and a delicate scent of candied violet. Wine still needs time to open up, but should approach peak by 2027 and improve well through 2035.”
- Anna Lee C. Iijima (May 2022)
