Notes on the vintage:
"2015 is a blessed year, dreamed of, from spring to harvest the climatic conditions were favourable. Each phase took place in optimal conditions: homogeneous flowering, then the rainfall necessary for the development of the plant before the very dry months of June and July Veraison is going wonderfully. The seeds begin to ripen very early. The month of August with some appropriate rains and mild temperatures allowed the vines to develop well and the grapes to ripen harmoniously. The beautiful days and cool nights of September accompanied by some downpours they favored the maturation of the tannins. The grapes are simply magnificent, a rare and sublime moment.
The perfect sanitary conditions of the vineyard and the superb climatic conditions of this early autumn allowed us to harvest magnificent "à la carte" grapes for… almost a month!
The Angelus Merlots are harvested from 22 September, ripe but not too much, crunchy, fruity and very fresh.
The Cabernet Francs, nuggets of Angelus, also magnificent, are harvested from October 8th. Here, if they don't reign supreme, they represent almost half of the cultivated area. They bring elegance, finesse and density with a silky side and will go a long way towards sublimating this new vintage.
2015 is an excellent vintage for the Angelus. Excellent for the subtle balance between power and refinement: intense aromas of ripe and crunchy fruits, a sweet and frank attack, tight and velvety tannins, great purity. We find the charm of a sunny vintage, with a touch of flamboyant classicism, one could say baroque, in harmony with the elegance and rush brought by the freshness and tension of the persistent finish.
Harvest: from 22 September to 14 October
Assemblage: 62% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc
To drink: 2040 - 2050"
Reviews:
James Suckling : 99
“A great wine with superb concentration and richness. yet it's ever so agile and polished. Spices, blueberries, cinnamon and dried flowers. Full body and polished and full tannins. Great length. The refinement to the tannins is amazing. Compacted. Essence-like. Needs five or six years to open. Try in 2025” (2/2018)
Wine Advocate : 97
“A blend of 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Angelus reveals a deep garnet-purple color and fragrant aromas of crushed red currants, warm plums and pencil shavings with hints of incense, sage, violets and tobacco. Full-bodied, very fine and intense yet exquisitely delicate with wonderful freshness, it has ripe yet firm, very finely grained tannins and an epically long, perfumed finish. With bags of perfume and a captivating plushness, this Angelus is a real head-turner! (LPB)” (2/2018)
Wine Enthusiast : 97
“This wine is structured, powerful and ripe but also elegant and stylish. Juicy black fruits combine with a dry, structured core to give the wine both its richness and its future. Powered by its fruit and tannins, it has good aging potential. Drinks from 2027. *Cellar Selection* (RV)” (4/2018)
Jancis Robinson 17.5/20
“Extremely dark purple crimson. Light nose but masses of sweet concentration on the palate. Nothing exaggerated. Just rather drying tannins on the end at the moment. Like Carillon d'Angélus, it has a slight bitterness on the finish but has clearly been made with no shortage of ambition. For the long term. 17.5/20 points (JR)” (4/2016)
