After the superb 2009 vintage, the 2010 arrived to rival it... Both 2009 and 2010 had large amounts of alcohol, tannins and colour. The big difference between the vintages is in the acidity levels.

In fact, thanks to cool nights and generally cooler temperatures, 2010 had much higher acidity levels.

In a nutshell, the vintage was extremely dry but without sudden changes in temperature, so the berries were small with thick skin, rich in color and tannin and fresh in flavour.

The relatively cool and sunny climate that prevailed during the maturation was conducive to preserving the fruit and the acidity.

The harvest began in summer on Monday 27th September and was completed on 14th October. Lynch-Bages 2010 has all the hallmarks of an excellent vintage. It may seem premature to describe it in detail, but its deep colour, complexity, intense fruit, freshness and tannic density already indicate enormous potential.

Refinement: 15 months in French oak barrels (70% new wood)

79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot

Reviews of the 2009 vintage

Robert Parker : 97
"Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Lynch Bages comes sailing out of the glass with notes of redcurrant jelly, black cherry compote and cassis plus wafts of smoked meats, tar, cigar box and dried roses. Full-bodied, the palate is stacked with red and black fruit layers, framed by ripe, firm, fine-grained tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing very long."

James Suckling : 98
