History and character

Château d'Yquem is the only Sauternes wine classified as Premier Cru Supérieur in the 1855 classification. For over two centuries, the estate belonged to the Lur-Saluces family; today it is part of the LVMH group.

Sauternes produces sweet wines from grapes affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle.

Premier Cru Supérieur is the highest level of the 1855 classification for Sauternes wines.
