The 2012 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva by Sciamano embodies the nobility and power of the Veronese tradition, interpreted with elegance and depth. It originates in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica area, where the vineyards nestle on gently rolling hills of limestone and tuff, between 100 and 500 meters above sea level, in a landscape steeped in history and a winemaking tradition.
The territory and the philosophy
Sciamano is a producer who combines respect for the land with a passion for craftsmanship. Each bunch is harvested by hand, with the same care as those who understand the value of time. The company's philosophy is to preserve the authenticity of the terroir and the purity of the fruit, allowing the wine to speak with the voice of Valpolicella.
The grapes and the drying process
The 2012 Riserva is made from a traditional blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara , the area's most representative varietals. After harvesting, the bunches are carefully selected and left to dry for several months in well-ventilated rooms, where they lose some of their moisture and concentrate their sugars and aromas. This slow process, typical of Amarone, gives the wine extraordinary intensity and structure.
Vinification and refinement
Fermentation takes place slowly, at low temperatures, to promote a balanced extraction of color and aromas.
This is followed by a long refinement in oak barrels , during which the wine evolves, acquiring elegance, softness and aromatic complexity.
Compared to the classic version, the Riserva benefits from a longer maturation period, which makes it deeper, rounder and longer-lived.
Sensory profile
In the glass it has an intense ruby red color that turns towards garnet with time.
On the nose, it offers broad and enveloping aromas of ripe red fruit, cherries in alcohol, dried plums, figs, and black cherry jam. Notes of cocoa, sweet spices, tobacco, and fine woods then emerge.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, warm, and velvety , with silky tannins and a perfect balance between structure and softness. The finish is very long, harmonious, and enveloping, with a return of candied fruit and dark chocolate.
Vintage and evolutionary potential
2012 was a balanced vintage, yielding wines rich in concentration and excellent ageing potential. After more than ten years, the Riserva Sciamano today expresses a fascinating maturity , with evolved yet still vibrant aromas and a structure capable of sustaining further years of bottle aging.
Pairings
Perfect with braised red meats, roasts, game and mature cheeses , but also as a meditation wine , to be enjoyed slowly, perhaps in front of a fireplace or paired with a high-quality dark chocolate.
Service
It is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 18°C , in a large glass, after decanting for at least an hour to allow the wine to open up completely and reveal its complexity.
