Piedmont Barbera
Grape variety: Barbera 100%
Barbera, a great Piedmontese black grape in terms of volume and a traditional table wine of the entire region, is today offered in a wide range of interpretations of interesting level, with different styles of vinification. With the fruit at the center, Vigneti Repetti offers its style of barbera in an accessible version, sippable and at the same time understated, aged in steel tanks for a clean and unfussy freshness.
The location is Sarezzano, Sant'Agata Fossili, and here the barbera grows at an altitude between 250 and 320 meters above sea level on a soil composed of limestone, clay and marl. The fully ripe grapes, with an optimal fruitiness and a good balance, are harvested by hand towards the end of September.
Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are destemmed and crushed and the must is left to rest in contact with the skins in a steel tank for eight to ten days. The wine is left to ferment for 6 to 8 months in steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with regular pumping over for optimal extraction; the wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation in steel tanks. The wine is then left to rest in the bottle for another six months to mature into its most suitable and accessible style.
The wine has a warm tone and fruity nuances of red and dark fruits, such as cherries and berries. Good acidity, soft tannins and a special focus on fruit ensure a drinking pleasure that can be enjoyed with everything from delicious pizza to fresh pasta with mushrooms, for example, to meat dishes and vegetarian dishes, preferably with cheese.
