Giovanni Manzone

Barolo Castelletto 2021

DOCG

75cl

Barolo Castelletto DOCG is a complex, pleasant and well-balanced red wine, made from Nebbiolo grapes cultivated and vinified by Azienda Agricola Manzone Giovanni , in the Langhe region.
The grapes come from a single vineyard, replanted in 1999, in the MGA of Castelletto , in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba .

The exposure is east-southeast, the soil is calcareous-clayey, and the extreme slope of the hill makes manual work indispensable, especially the hand-picking of the grapes, which takes place in mid/late October to ensure a noble maturation of the skins and seeds.
The slow macerations of 30/40 days and the spontaneous fermentations do not rush the polyphenolic extraction, which takes place in the most delicate way possible, using the gentle sprinkling of the cap.
After waiting about 3 years for aging in barrels and a few months of rest in cement tanks , the wine is bottled during the waning moon period.

The first vintage of Barolo Castelletto DOCG produced was 1961 .
The Barolo Castelletto DOCG is released on the market about 5 years after the harvest, with a production of only a few thousand bottles.

"The 2021 Barolo Castelletto is another absolutely stellar wine in this lineup. Ample and broad on the palate, the Castelletto offers a beguiling mix of aromatic intensity, fruit depth and structure. Time in the glass works wonders here. This poised, dramatic Barolo has it all. It's one of the very finest wines I have tasted at this address in a very long time. Don't miss it."

📝 Description

Manzone Giovanni's "Castelletto" Barolo is a great terroir-driven wine, a profound and rigorous expression of one of the most distinctive cru's of Monforte d'Alba. Castelletto is an area that produces austere, vertical, and mineral Barolos, and Manzone manages to interpret it with elegance and consistency, enhancing its character without compromise.

The 2021 vintage presents itself as a year of extraordinary purity and balance: the nose is fine and complex, with notes of ripe red fruits, faded roses, sweet tobacco and touches of licorice and spices. On the palate it is broad, taut, with dense but perfectly integrated tannins and a long, savory and balsamic finish. A Barolo destined to age well, but already capable of exciting today.
