Tinto / Red
DOC Douro, Portugal
Alcohol 13.4% / 750ml
Variety 80% red and 20% white
Denomination : DOC Douro
Subregion : Upper Douro
Vineyard : Old vines at 734 m
Tasting Notes : More open in color than the other red wines in the Val Moreira line, it presents a highly captivating aromatic elegance. Fresh fruit pairs well with the spicy, cigar-like notes that come from aging in used barrels. On the palate, the silky, fresh texture paves the way for a surprisingly long and compelling finish.
Pairing : It pairs well with roast goat dishes, white meats, various cod dishes and soft cheeses.
Serving temperature: 16ºC – 18ºC
Vintage : The 2020 wine year was characterized by a rainy winter, ideal for replenishing water in the soil, followed by a spring with mild temperatures, thus promoting healthy plant development. However, July was one of the hottest on record, which caused significant losses in production and, consequently, accelerated the grape ripening process. The harvest took place between the first and second week of September, in plots that, due to their sun exposure, are harvested two or three weeks later in colder years.
Vinification : Manual harvest in 20 kg crates, destemming of approximately 60% of the tank volume and the remainder of the bunches whole. Cold maceration for 2 weeks and alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 2 months. Malolactic fermentation was carried out in vats and then racked into used barrels.
The refinement lasted 12 months in used 225-litre French and Portuguese oak barrels.
