Collection: Château La Cardonne

Château La Cardonne is a historic Médoc estate, already present on the first maps of France drawn by Cassini in 1769. Located on the highest point of the Médoc plateau, the property spans 45 hectares of gently sloping vineyards, exposed to Atlantic winds and influenced by the Gironde estuary. The vineyard is distinguished by a remarkable variety of soils: gravels on clay on the plateau and, along the slopes, plots of clay-limestone on blue marl with limestone outcrops. This diversity allows for separate vinification of each plot, to best express the peculiarities of each terroir. According to legend, the wine was among Napoleon III's favorites, but it was not included in the 1855 classification due to its distance from Bordeaux. Today, Château La Cardonne is recognized among the elite Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel.
The estate's reputation was also consolidated during its ownership by Domaines Barons de Lafite-Rothschild, whose contribution was crucial for the international recognition of the wine. After the acquisition in 1990, Éric Fabre, formerly technical director of Lafite and architect of the vineyard's restructuring in the 1980s, continued to guide its development, making it one of Bordeaux's most modern realities.
In 2000, Magali Guyon, former oenologist at Château Lynch-Bages, took over and defined the wine's style for over twenty years. From 2026, the management will pass to Sébastien Vergne, from Château Margaux, confirming the estate's tradition of attracting great oenological talents.
